Code Trip Potato Projectile Invitational

Sunday, March 09, 2008
1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

February is Idaho Potato Lovers Month according to the Idaho Potato Commission. Well it's not February anymore... time to launch those spuds to the moon!

The objective: to make your potato fly farther than anyone else's. You may use any means necessary, such as a slingshot, potato gun, catapult, trebuchet, or just throwing it. The only rule is the potato has to travel in the air as a projectile.

Potato Projectile Invitational FAQ

Q, How do you measure distance?

A. Distance is measured horizontally, though we may give extra credit for feats of ridiculous starchy altitude.

Q. How many tries do I get?

A. Each participant gets three attempts.

Q. I spent all my money on fuel for my solid rocket boosters and can't afford a potato!

A. Don't worry, official competition potatoes will be provided. Outside potatoes are not allowed to prevent cheating (hollowed out potatoes, carbon-fiber imitation potatoes, weather balloons painted to look like potatoes, yams... we've seen it all). And that wasn't in the form of a question.

Q. What do I get if I win?

A. The geek who goes the distance is awarded the coveted Spudnik Trophy, not to mention untold glory and admiration of your potato-flinging peers.

NOTE: This event is not sponsored or sanctioned by the Idaho Potato Commission, because they're probably not as silly as we are.

The current location appears to be the Microsoft building on 9th and Miller. I certainly did not, and no one did, tell you that the building has a roof, and there's a secret door to the roof. Well, you probably figured it had a roof. But ah, the secret door! I did not tell you about that!
